Camp, Week 1

I went to two different camps this summer. The first one was our church camp, for five days. I had lots of fun there. On the way to camp, the van blew a tire, so we were two hours late in arriving. By the time we got there, orientation was almost over, but that was OK. The campers were separated into teams for the games we were going to play all week. Nobody found out what teams they were on until that night. I was on the Pirates, and we stayed ahead for the whole week! Every day we had things to do so we were usually busy. After lunch,everybody went to Blitz, which was finding out points and where teams had the chance to earn more by showing team spirit.

Then we had recreation games, with two teams for each game. On Tuesday the Pirates played dripping cup relay, war ball(dodge ball), and capture the flag. For the dripping cup relay, two people from each team had to run to a bucket filled with water, fill up a container filled with holes and take it back to the trashcan. Then we had to plug the holes with our fingers or toes. Every day after rec all kids had free time. Usually I went swimming with M, who was in my dorm and really nice. Then we did Go Carts together. Wednesday, Pirates had free time, played Splash ball(Kickball), and did games in the tabernacle. Those games were over-under, trivia, and another relay race. For over-under, several people stand in one line and the first person has the ball. They then pass it behind them; first over their heads, then the next person passes it under, then over, under, over, under, until it reaches the back of the line. This person then goes to the front. When the starting person is back at the front, the game is over. On Thursday during free time, M and I went to a lake at a neighboring camp together. We went on a paddle boat and a canoe. The canoe got flipped over by some other campers. We had so much fun! One tip, though. When you are in a paddle boat, never jump out because then you can't get back in and have to pull it back to shore.


During the week, our Rec director and one other guy had been making safety videos telling us what to do while at camp. The funny thing was that they were doing exactly the opposite of what we were being told to do. During these videos, the two men were emphasizing that Bigfoot WAS NOT REAL, but "he" was running around in the background wreaking chaos. The pirates ended up winning with 33,625 points. Camp was really fun. I'm glad I went.
